Ocean City, NJ Good for both Advanced and Intermediate surfers due to the differences in the waves North and South on the shoreline. In the North there is heavier surf with crashing deep water waves and therefore less surfers creating appetizing surf for those intense enough to brave the Northern Atlantic's frigid waters.
Haleiwa, HI The North Shore is argued as the best surf in America, if not the world, and for good reason. Visit in the winter and head to the beach pretty much anywhere from Haleiwa all the way to Turtle Bay and you will find what you are looking for. Perfectly formed reefs and sandbars create dozens of warm-water breaks that accommodate swells from September through May.
New Smyrna, FL Definitely the most consistent breaks on Florida's surfable East Coast. Also great for high performance surfing. Features a sand bottom trick park. Also half an hour North, Ponce Inlet offers the bravest of surfers huge swells and is a popular destination for the well travelled east-coast surf seekers.
Montauk, NY Another rare gem on the east coast due to its consistency for huge swells and also its variety: surfers have the choice between sand bottom, reef and point options all in close proximity.
Malibu, CA The Bu may be more famous for star sightings than its pipelines, but its impact on surf culture has been next to none. A favourite destination of surf movie king Matthew Mcconaughey, it is best in the fall and summer but shows crazy variety as you make your way down the beach.
