AustraliaYallingup – Margaret River, Western Australia
The tiny resort village of Yallingup marks the beginning of the famed Margaret River region, where wine buffs and wave-heads have long converged in more-or-less equal numbers. With a lovely clean strip of sand and several breaks that range from mild to monstrous depending on the swell, Yallingup is widely considered the best “all-round” surf destination on Australia’s west coast. Catch a wave at each of the breaks known locally as “The Three Bears” (that’s Papa, Mama and Baby Bear). North Coast – Angourie to Byron Bay, NSW In the late 60s the surfing counter culture had taken hold and its influence was no stronger than at the NSW North Coast. It became the place to be for anyone looking to ride a wave and live the alternative lifestyle. The point break at Angourie was discovered in early 1970 but remained under the radar for two decades until it was made famous by local pro surfer Nat Young. Another breathtaking break at Lennox Head deserves mention as one of Australia’s best waves. Noosa – Point Break, QLD
A storied and often photographed long-board break, which on a good day can provide the opportunity of a lifetime with a 200-meter ride. During a stronger swell a big crew of locals are always out “walking the plank”, but this break is ideal for beginners during smaller swells – long and easy rides. |
Torquay – Bells Beach, Vic.
Torquay is the historical and spiritual mecca of Australian surf and is still the home of the country’s oldest and most prestigious professional competition: the Rip Curl Pro, which sees the winner receive the Clanging Bell trophy. The Southern Ocean swells slow down and steepen as the ocean flows over the shallow reefs towards the shore, which creates spectacular surf that rises up to 5 meters. Due to this height unless you really know what your doing we might want to leave the Torquay waves to the professionals Crescent Head, NSW
Just north of Port Macquarie Point Plomer Road parallels the coast for about 25kms. A number of perfect right-hand breaks ideal for long-board riders lend to the occasional 200 meter run. This pristine long board break has been the location of many film shoots for “hanging ten” and cross-stepping their ten footers. Near Crescent Head, ”Delicate Nobby”, a rock formation that cuts out into the Pacific creates beach breaks on either side |
